Swaps, storage and make-ahead

Swaps

  • For a vegan version, use a plain unsweetened soy or coconut yogurt and soy or oat milk, and replace the honey with maple syrup.
  • For a dairy-free smoothie, swap the Greek yogurt and milk for a plain dairy-free yogurt and unsweetened almond milk.
  • Skip the honey entirely if your banana is very ripe, since it often adds enough sweetness on its own.
  • Use fresh strawberries plus a handful of ice if you don't have frozen ones, though the texture will be a little thinner.

Storage

This smoothie is best enjoyed fresh, as it separates and loses its thick texture as it sits. If needed, keep leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 24 hours and shake or re-blend before drinking.

Make ahead

Pack the banana chunks and frozen strawberries together in a freezer bag ahead of time, then just add the milk, yogurt, vanilla and honey and blend when you're ready.
